Dr. Ruth Viehoff

Hello, I'm so glad to meet you! I live in the Indianapolis area, and I am a licensed clinical psychologist in Massachusetts, New York, and Indiana. I am also a member of PSYPACT which means I can serve remote patients in all participating states. I provide individual psychotherapy to patients ages 18+.

I am trained as a generalist, which means I am skilled in working with a wide variety of mental health problems including anxiety, mood disorders, ADHD, chronic pain, trauma exposure, and relationship conflict.

Professional Care

I have worked in community mental health, primary care clinics in rural and urban areas, and in multiple VA hospitals. I have specialty training in primary care psychology, which involves treating patients with medical and mental health needs.

Specialty Care

I incorporate evidence-based strategies that are tailored to your unique needs and goals for treatment. I value open communication and want this to be a space that feels safe for you to grow, unpack, and improve yourself and your wellbeing.

I have received specialized training in evidence-based therapies, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and specialized forms of CBT for insomnia, chronic pain, and substance use disorders. I am also experienced in dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), cognitive processing therapy for PTSD (CPT), mindfulness, and motivational interviewing (MI).

Compassionate Care

My specialty is in working with young adults with anxiety, people-pleasing tendencies, perfectionism, imposter syndrome, and burnout. I know that my patients are talented and competent hard workers who bring valuable skills to therapy. My goal is to help you recognize your inherent value, learn to set boundaries, and live a life you love.

My therapeutic approach is collaborative. I believe that you are the expert on you, and my role is to work alongside you to develop a course for treatment. I have been described as warm, compassionate, supportive, and encouraging in therapy.

Passionate Care

I live in the Indianapolis area with my husband and my black cat, Behemoth (who can sometimes be overheard during video appointments). In my spare time, I enjoy reading fiction, baking, and taking pottery classes. I'm originally from New Hampshire and really enjoy camping, hiking, and spending time outdoors. In the warmer months, I like to cheer on the local baseball team and have a soft spot in my heart for the Boston Red Sox.
